Transcend Ego
Ego is the opposite of the virtues of all 13 seasons, especially Fulfill Yearnity and Love Everyone. If we can get ego out of the way, yearnity and love will easily and naturally flow us toward a virtuous existance.

The trick with ego, though, is that it thrives on conflict. So, when you try to fight the ego in yourself, it gets stronger. Keep reading to learn how to transcend ego without fighting it.
Let's Get to It! | Here's What to Do:
1 - Learn about Ego
2 - Recognize Ego & Name It
3 - Use Additional Techniques
First, if you want to transcend ego, it sure helps to understand it. Then, you can recognize it. We highly recommend the work of Eckhart Tolle on this topic. Here are some great places to start:
-
Read his book, The New Year.
-
Listen to his podcast.
-
Watch any of the videos on his YouTube Channel.

You can also subscribe to our YouTube channel and check out the videos on the channel about ego.
This is so easy and so effective. Once you understand ego and its nuances, you can more easily notice the voice of ego in yourself. When that voice comes up, there is no need to fight it or feel shame. That will only strengthen the ego.

Instead, just recognize that ego is there and name it as such. Rather than identify as the voice of ego, identify as the one who is aware of ego.

Just keep recognizing and naming ego. It might feel like it's taking awhile to see results but be persistent. Eventually, and maybe more quickly than it seems, you will find yourself naturally transcending an egoic mindset.
Most of the time throughout the day, it's best to just notice ego and move on. It can also be effective to set aside special time as often as you like to use any of these techniques to transcend ego:
-
Use any of the resources on our Process Emotions page to process the traumatic experiences that fuel the ego.
-
Practice mindfulness. The ego loves to worry about the past and the future. Being fully present diminishes the ego's power over you. Any of the resources on our Hone Perception page will help you do this.
-
Draw a picture of your ego. Include symbolic details that show how ego tends to manifest in you. Label your ego with a name. Add word bubbles that say what your ego tends to say to you. Look at the picture and say something like, "You're the ego. You aren't me. Thank you for how you've served me. I release you." Then, destroy the paper.
What do I do when I get so frustrated with my ego?!
As you're working to transcend ego, you might feel like you're more egoic than ever. This is because you're noticing ego! It is no longer invisible to you. The fact that you are aware of it more means you're experiencing success.

Each time ego shows up for you, you have an opportunity to strengthen your ability to transcend it. Just as physical muscles grow when they face the challenge of resistance, your virtue will grow each time ego shows up and you choose to identify as the one who is aware of it.

You can express gratitude for each time ego shows up. You can express gratitude for each person or situation that brings out your ego because that challenge helps your transcendence muscles grow!
