

"heal the earth" meditation
This meditation will help you try out the idea of seeing yourself not as a 100% independent being but rather as one part of the Earth.But here's the thing: you are the Earth.
Just as much as any part of your body is you, any part of the Earth is the Earth. As you learn to see yourself as part of the Earth, healing the Earth and healing yourself become similtaneous goals.

If you try this meditation and you like it, you can mark part of a daily routine to gradually hardwire a "Be the Earth" mindset into your consciousness. This can be particularly effective during the Steward the Earth season.

Pick a day, time, and place where you will do this meditation. It can be really nice to do it outside in a comfortable place that helps you feel close to nature. But it is also just fine to do it indoors.

Write in your journal about you experience and learned by doing this meditation. Include thoughts, plans, and intentions about how you will apply what you learned as you move forward in life.

Walking Meditation
As a variant to this meditation, you can also try connecting with the Earth through walking meditation. We learned about this concept from Thich Naht Hanh's book Peace Is Every Step:

It's best if you do this barefoot but walking with shoes is still effective. Go outside. And then walk.
​
As you walk, imagine that you are kissing the Earth with your feet. Be very aware of what all your senses are communicating to you. Smile. Breathe.
